      With the year the "German Society of the City of New York" ends the first century of its activity. Founded in the year , by thirteen noble-hearted Germans, after the pattern of the German Society of Pennsylvania, which had been in operation in Philadelphia since , it has encountered many difficulties, and repeatedly undergone severe struggles for its existence. This collection contains the professional and personal papers of Dr. Albert Vander Veer and other members of his family, and includes family correspondence and postcards and photographs. Records relating to Albert's practice of medicine predominate, but other facets of Albert's public life are documented, such as his activity on the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.
